Warmed up 1.5 miles, did some strides, then started the race.

Going in to this weekend I wanted to make sure I stuck with Thomas and the other guys as long as freaking possible. I was able to do so for the first two miles.

My first mile was around a 5:07ish, and pretty much our whole team was together. It was a really cool thing, and I felt good! The second mile was in the teens, bringing my 2-mile split to under 10:30 (fun fact, that's over 30 sec faster than I ran at grass relays, which I sucked at), which also felt solid considering I was able to stay up with the guys. The third mile, however, was rough. I lost contact with Thomas and Austin, but held my position. My last mile was around a whopping 5:50. That's definitely something to work on. Despite the unfortunate third mile, I finished with a time of 16:27, which is a 27 second PR for the 5k, so I'm pretty happy with that.

As for the team, we took third after Davis and Desert Hills. Our 1-5 spread was 41 seconds, going Connor, Ryan, Austin, Thomas, me, and Michael and Kobe were 6th and 7th.

I'm super excited to see how the rest of the season goes, and I'm very grateful for the breakthrough I had today.

Today we had a very very difficult hill ladder workout. We did 3 sets of 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, all at 5k pace, up airport hill. The only rest we got was jogging back down to the bottom. When we finished the first set, I knew I was in for a rough time. By the middle of the second set my legs were really feeling it and on the jog down after the 300 I had a major side stitch and I started hyperventilating a little bit, and a few tears may or may not have been shed.

The third set for me was pretty much all guts. Starting the workout I was honestly debating whether or not I would be able to finish. The last 400 and 500 up that hill I gave everything I had and Connor and I sprinted out the last 50 meters.

It hurt like heck, but that was the goal. Shout out to Spencer for helping me get into a better state of mind after the second set. Also shout out to pain, because it became my friend today.

Warmed up 2 miles, then did the 6 minute test. We decided that we would switch off pacing every lap, hoping to hit 70's. I paced the first lap in a 70, then Connor took over, bringing us to 2:25, then Ryan took over, bringing us to 3:40ish. We came through the mile in about 4:51, then we (Ryan, Connor, Thom, and I) picked it up and started kicking. I made it 5 laps and 20 meters, after Ryan, Connor, and Thom. Pacing per lap was an amazing idea! It made it so much easier!

PM: 4:75 miles after work because I didn't have enough time to get all the miles in at practice. Shout out to Joe for going to Costa Vida with me after work because we got free entre coupons!

I'll say it from the start, this course is a beast. Warmed up 1.5 miles, then started the race. The start was literally horrible and I got crazily boxed in. I had to do some serious weaving to get into even a decent position. I was hoping to try and stay with Thom today, but I wasn't ever able to make it up to him. The first mile wasn't fast at all, my watch said 6:11. The second mile was some good downhill, 5:43. The last mile included the ever famous mutha cussa, which I made up without walking, then the gradual uphill after that absolutely murdered me. Around 7:15 pace on that part and there was nothing I could've done about it #dontjudge. That one was like a 6:25 mile. The combination of downhill, then the mutha cussa, then the gradual uphill makes for one insane course, so kudos to herriman.

I've had a cold for the past couple days so that didn't help, and I need to change something when it comes to races. I can do awesome in workouts, but come race day, I can't deliver. I'm definitely going to see what I can do about that.

Shout out to Kobe and Guppy, who both got 4th in their races, and to us for getting 2nd.

So I pretty much felt like crap today. We did whistle hills, and by the end of the third set I couldn't really feel my legs, my head was pounding, and my vision was going weird. I told Jamie and she told me to just head back to the school and call it good for the day. The run back kinda sucked, but I survived so that's good. Oh Jamie also told me to start counting my calories to make sure I'm getting enough. We'll see how that goes.

Alright, just so y'all know, food is good for you. So I downloaded this app called fatsecret to count my calories and stay on top of things, and based on my activity level and age and weight and all that stuff, it said I need 3700 calories every day. Thinking about it, I've been getting closer to 2500. So I actually ate enough yesterday after my fail of a workout, and today was freaking fantastic.

First we did a mile of speed changes on the track, just to make our legs a little tired. Then we did the dream mile and a half. I felt really good from the start. From the beginning I started pushing the pace, and by a half mile in, I was decisively in the lead, constantly pushing because I felt like I could. We came through the mile in 5:35, where I was still leading. At that point, Connor and Ryan picked it up, and I did my best to stick with them. I ended up finishing third after Ryan and Connor with a time of 8:31 and a 9 second PR.

I was very happy with today and I am looking forward to a half season filled with food and fast times. #thumbsup

Connor, Thom, Michael, Austin, Kobe, and I drove up to the state course to do the mile repeats today, and to put it simply my legs are thrashed. My splits were roughly 5:22, 5:19, 5:36, 5:36, and 5:38. After the second one my legs felt like dead weights. My breathing and everything else was fine, there was just major fatigue in the legs. It's supposed to be like that though, it's awesome week! Shout out to Jamie for being the best coach ever and giving us frickin hard workouts!

It was the last workout of awesome week today, and indeed it was awesome. The workout was 6x1000m at 5k pace with 200m jog, then straight into a 200m sprint. After the sprint we got 3 minutes of rest. The 1000s were 3:06, 3:15, 3:11, 3:12, 3:12, and 3:16. The 200s were 28, 30, 28, 31, 29, and 26 on the last one. After the second 1000 I started to fall off the pack again but I was able to break that mental barrier and stick with them, staying on pace.

It was definitely a hard workout, but a really good one, I kinda liked the format of it. After a .5 mile cool down we went to the SOLW.

I cut today's run short and didn't run on Saturday because after the workout on Friday both of my feet were hurting pretty bad on specific metatarsals. So, to not run the risk of stress fractures, I'm taking tomorrow and Wednesday off and cross training to completely recover from last week.

Shout out to Thom because he turned 17 today!

Bob Firman. What a doozie. We warmed up a mile, then did our stretches and drills in the starting area so we could get a good box. Shout out to Austin for picking one of the best boxes out there. We got out well, and the first mile was pretty darn fast. The whole first mile I was panicking a little bit because of how fast we went out. 4:59. At the same time I was trying to get up with Thom, Connor, and Ryan. I don't know what happened to me after that. I slowed down considerably and got passed by a ton of guys. Michael caught up to me and I did what I could to stay with him, but it just didn't happen. The further I ran the more I seemed to feel like crap and nothing went right. Michael pulled ahead and 3/4 mile away from the finish I got a sideache and it hurt to breath. Somehow I made it up the hill for the last time and passed a couple guys in my attempt of a kick. My finishing time was barely under 17, a whole minute off where I wanted to be.

I looked at the results, and had I been where I should have been, we would have had a very real shot at winning. I talked to Jamie about it and she keeps telling me it's not my fault. Here's the thing. I know I can stay with Thomas. I've done it in 90% of the speed workouts we've had. However, come race day, I keep choking and nothing goes my way. I don't know what's wrong. Papa Heaps said Jackie is struggling with some of the same things and she went to see a sports psychologist to help. He also recommended a book to help with the mental side of things. I know it's mental, I just need to figure it out. Wish me luck.

On the bright side, we took 4th, and Guppy took 12th in her race, out-kicking Aubrey Argyle.
