Felt pretty crappy but it was a good time.
Sat, 19 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Aug 18, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-18-2017.html
Speed today! The workout was changed from 5x1500 with 100m jog in between to 5x1000m with 600m @6:00-6:10 in between. Still pretty brutal. My paces for the 1k's were 5:09, 5:12, 5:32, 5:32, 5:30. Paces for the rest were 5:43, 6:07, 6:21, 6:20, 5:52. It's crazy how easy 6 flat feels right after going fast. I stuck with Ricky and Garrett (the two other freshmen) for the first couple and fell off them about 30m, but I caught back up at the end so that was good. 5:43 average for 5 miles so I'm happy with it.
Fri, 18 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Aug 17, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-17-2017.html
I still couldn't practice with the team today so I sat in the van while they did their run. I did 4 at about 9pm with them and then 2 on the treadmill.

Good news though, I FINALLY got cleared for practice just in time for mile repeats tomorrow morning lol

BIG shoutout to all the skyridge homies who had their first meet today!
Thu, 17 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Aug 16, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-16-2017.html
10 miles alone this morning. I'm still not cleared for practice so hopefully that's taken care of tomorrow. I showed myself around town and even checked out our XC course. My legs are super super heavy, I'll really focus on eating well today.
Wed, 16 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Aug 15, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-15-2017.html
2 mile warmup with the team, and I got my spikes on for the cut-down race when my coach came up to me and said I couldn't practice with the team yet because the health department wanted to clear me for activity themselves because of all the health stuff that happened last track season... so that was lame. It was cool to watch I guess. I finished up miles later with Joe. Hopefully I'm clear to be at practice tomorrow because I saw the doctor today and got everything figured out. Hopefully it's processed tomorrow.

The first full day in Idaho was a success. The guys I'm living with are awesome so I'm looking forward to this year. It's a relief to finally be here after stressing about it for so long.

Also, the gear Adidas gave us is sweeeeeet. A lot of clothes, and a bunch of shoes!
Tue, 15 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Aug 14, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-14-2017.html 7 with Gill and Parker, big shout-out to them Mon, 14 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Sat, Aug 12, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-12-2017.html I did this one with Herschel, and while I felt better today, my legs were definitely still pretty heavy the whole time. We did average under 7 though so that was good. I hit 60 miles this week, more than I have ever done. I'm tired, but I feel no injuries or anything. And the miles this week weren't easy, I had some hard workouts/runs. Things are looking up for the season! Sat, 12 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Aug 11, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-11-2017.html Recovery. My legs are absolute trash today, so tired from yesterday. Fri, 11 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Aug 10, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-10-2017.html
Alrighty. A quick introduction to Jacob's Ladder/Lone Peak. We gained 5,416 feet in 5.86 miles. Mile 3 has 1,554 feet of gain. In the last .86, you have some pretty sketchy scrambling up to the peak, like it's seriously steep and legitimately dangerous. Also, the "hike" has an "HC" classification, which is: HC climb - "Hors Categorie" - (a French term for above category) climbs are the hardest rating/score given to any climb. All climb scores are based on distance, grade/elevation change, and maximum elevation. The combination of these factors drives all final climb categories and there is no subjective analysis used in the final scoring of any climb score. HC climbs will traditionally be very long (over 10 miles), very steep (average grades above 8 to 10%), or very high (above 11,000 feet) but again some extremely steep or long climbs could alone qualify it as an HC rated climb.

We wanted the FKT (fastest known time), which is just under 90 minutes. Since we weren't anticipating taking forever, we didn't bring any water and we had just a couple gu's.

We got going, and the first couple miles went by pretty smoothly and I felt pretty strong, alternating between powerhiking in steep spots and running in runable spots. 546 and 722 feet for those miles. Then mile 3 came. I was still feeling fairly strong but it's simply not runable so we powerhiked it. 1554 feet. 668 and 774 feet for miles 4 and 5, we hit some insanely beautiful views and meadows. Somewhere in mile 5 we lost the trail, and ended up climbing up the rock face to try to get to the peak. the last .86 had 1,025 feet of gain. On the way down we ran into a couple people and asked for water, which luckily they had because we were all hurting as far as water goes. I barely kept my sanity.

This run/hike/whatever you want to call it was an insane experience and although we didn't get the FKT, it was still very worth it. Now I gotta rehydrate and rest...

Shoutout to Gill and Parker for being my buddies, my last week in Utah has been a good one.
Thu, 10 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Aug 09, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-09-2017.html
The run today for camp was at potato hill and it was pretty darn fun. We were cruising and my legs were definitely super tired, but what's new? We had 3 sub-6's on the trail, chasing various course records. Although we didn't end up getting any because strava counts elapsed time and we were stopping to mark the course at every fork. So that was a bummer. I took the last couple miles pretty easy because my body is very very tired.

HAHAHA however. Parker, Gill, and I are going to attempt the FKT for Lone Peak tomorrow morning up Jacob's Ladder. 17% grade, 6.55 miles, and we have to do it in less than 89 minutes to get the record. 15min miles. IT'S GONNA HURT but that's alright 5672 FEET OF ELEVATION. OWWWWW.
Wed, 09 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Aug 08, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-08-2017.html Packing on those miles. 10 today at camp, and I was pretty darn tired the whole time... But James and I did do the last mile in 5:37 so that was interesting. Legs are dead. Tue, 08 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Aug 07, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-07-2017.html The workout today was 10,8,6,4,2 (minutes) with half rest, so 5,4,3,2. I decided to do this one on grass, in spikes. My paces were 5:41 for the 10min, 5:48 for the 8min, 5:46 for the 6min, 5:38 for the 4min, and 5:25 for the 2min. This was a tough one, especially alone. During the 6min one I realized that I was just trying to hang on to the pace, rather than consciously pushing the pace. I made that switch and although it hurt pretty bad, I was able to do the 4min and the 2min faster. I'm happy with the effort. Weights and core after, aka death to my legs. Also, I leave for ISU in a week so that's kinda scary Mon, 07 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Sat, Aug 05, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-05-2017.html 12 mile trail loop with Gill, Parker, and Ryan. We thought it was gonna be 10 but we took a wrong turn and it made 12. Haha which is awesome because I needed 12 anyway! We were cruising which was awesome but miles 9 and 10 were a little rough because we though we were getting close but we definitely weren't and it was a 9.4% grade. Definitely had a blast though so shout-out to them Weights and core after 💀 Definitely noticing much improved recovery with a green smoothie every morning Sat, 05 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Aug 04, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-04-2017.html Gill and Chuck came to my house to get me to run this morning so shout-out to them. I did 4x400m hills @mile effort up center street and that was kinda brutal... Especially after lifting yesterday... Splits were 83,86,93,79. I went hard on the last one and shout-out to Chuck for doing that last one with me. Also. Everybody who is in HS and needs xc spikes, come to Utah run tomorrow from 5-8. I'll hook you up with a discount and there will be snacks and a raffle Fri, 04 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Aug 03, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-03-2017.html I was going to do my hill workout today, but decided against it because I can do it tomorrow while the team is doing whistle hills. Pretty good distance run. My legs have been so dead recently... I think it's because I'm not eating very well. Quantity or quality so I'll go home and eat some veggies 👍 Weights and core at home Thu, 03 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Aug 02, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-02-2017.html 7 pretty chill miles, nothing crazy. Shout-out to Hershel for coming to practice and to the team for killing the workout Wed, 02 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Aug 01, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-01-2017.html Soleus definitely felt pretty good the whole time. Nothing too difficult, except my legs are wrecked from aquajogging yesterday... That never ceases to amaze me. Tue, 01 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Jul 31, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-31-2017.html I took a cross-train day to give my soleus another day to recover. I should be good to go tomorrow. I did some solid aquajogging, 10min warmup, 2x15min hard with 2min rest, and 10min cooldown. I definitely worked hard, my legs are toast. The workout today was supposed to be 2x15min tempo so I pretty much just did that in the pool. Good times. Mon, 31 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Sat, Jul 29, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-29-2017.html Well... I woke up at 4:15 because I had to get 12 miles in before work at 7:15. We got going (shout-out to Dallin, big T, and Satchel for joining me) and on the way back soleus just started hurting more and more until I decided to cut mileage short and walk the last bit. I'll be sure to roll it out really good Sat, 29 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Jul 28, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-28-2017.html
Recovery today... and wow I needed it. My legs are so dang tired.
Fri, 28 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Jul 27, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-27-2017.html I paced Watson's group for the workout today so I could run with the team but I didn't have to kill myself in a workout because I am feeling pretty beat. Good times. Big shout-out to the team, they killed the workout today Thu, 27 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Jul 26, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-26-2017.html The team had easy pace today so I went with them. I felt decent, my legs were a little heavy but that's alright. Afterwards I did 8x60m hills @100% effort. That was interesting... It's not really like anything I've done before so that was kinda cool Wed, 26 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Jul 25, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-25-2017.html Recovery today, lots of miles with Chuck so that was a win Tue, 25 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Jul 24, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-24-2017.html
Speed today... 8x(3min on, 1min off). I wanted to do a workout on the track so that's where I did this one. For the most part I hung around 5:35-5:40 pace. I started feeling pretty crappy and threw up after the 5th one but felt a little better after that.
Mon, 24 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Sat, Jul 22, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-22-2017.html Trails with Joe. We started at the Timpooneke parking lot and followed the timp road to the groove Creek trail and came down Grove Creek canyon in PG. 5ish miles of climbing, 7ish miles of descending. It was a good time. Sat, 22 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Jul 21, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-21-2017.html I only needed 5 miles for my weekly mileage today 🤷. So I paced Brynlee and Mario on their steady state run and they killed it so shout-out to them! Seriously impressed. 10min core Fri, 21 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Jul 20, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-20-2017.html
We went up jail trail today so that was fun. Also did 2 grass miles after that. Legs are very tired, probably from the recent addition of speed to my training and lack of sleep... I really need to work on sleep.
Thu, 20 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Jul 19, 2017 http://collinxc.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-19-2017.html
Warmed up 2 miles around the track while watching the 6min test and about 1.25 to the bottom of the hill for my WO. I did 4x300m hills @mile effort. Splits were 57,56,59,57. Rest was just jogging down and the hill was pretty steep. Definitely pushed it so that was good. Shoutout to everyone who did the 6min test because that's a really fun workout!
Wed, 19 Jul 2017 06:00:00
