Slow Down For What Running Blog at FastRunningBlog.Com Sun, 19 Feb 2017 13:55:50 FeedCreator 1.7.2 Thu, Feb 16, 2017 So this was an interesting one. I warmed up with Chuck (mighty windy outside, almost lost my new hat 😬) then got started. I was in the first heat with Talon Hull, Hayden Penrod, and Joe Benson so it was definitely gonna be a good time. The first 800 went pretty well (came through at about 2:16), I was sitting in about 4th... Then things got interesting. I've been sick since Tuesday (been trying to keep it under control) and it definitely flared up. Legs felt like lead and lungs/throat were on fire. Kinda frustrating because I know I'm capable of getting to finals and I gave what I had today, I just didn't have enough to give. Hr never went below 85 today. Body not up to par. On the bright side, Chuck (4:36), Michael (9:36), Guppy (5:20), and Gan (5:27) made it to finals so congrats to them! Thu, 16 Feb 2017 07:00:00 Wed, Feb 15, 2017 Premeet for the mile tomorrow. 2x400, 68 and 65. Foot felt decent Wed, 15 Feb 2017 07:00:00 Tue, Feb 14, 2017 We went up jail trail today, and my foot was just kinda achy... nothing too bad. Shoutout to Ryan because he came to skyridge! Finished with 16 minutes on the bike at 150 BPM for the hr Tue, 14 Feb 2017 07:00:00 Mon, Feb 13, 2017
I figured I'd start running today because my foot has felt fantastic so I did and it went well! We had speed, so I warmed up a mile with the guys and did some of it! 3x400m @mile pace, hit 66,66,66. The full workout was 6x400m @mile pace then 4x100m all out. After my 400's (which felt fantastic by the way), I hopped on a bike and did 2x(8x(20 sec super hard, 10 sec easy)) with 2 min in between sets. WOW. That bike workout doesn't sound too bad but once you do it... major ouchage right there. It took a good 10 minutes of resting my head on the handlebars to convince myself to start a cooldown after I was done with that one. Good times.
Mon, 13 Feb 2017 07:00:00 Sat, Feb 11, 2017 Sat, 11 Feb 2017 07:00:00 Wed, Feb 08, 2017 Bikes again. My foot still hurts, but it feels structurally sound, the tendons and ligaments are just very sore from being stretched around I think... Should be better tomorrowish Wed, 08 Feb 2017 07:00:00 Tue, Feb 07, 2017 Bikes today. I took a weird step on the run yesterday and dislocated something... So I can barely walk. Bikes ftw. Getting my foot looked at tonight. Update: when I got out of the shower after practice, I stepped and my foot popped back into place... Not the most pleasant experience but eh it feels better now. The tendons and ligaments are sore though Tue, 07 Feb 2017 07:00:00 Mon, Feb 06, 2017 Just a normal recovery run... Until I took a weird step and something in my foot shifted and now I can barely walk. No bueno. Mon, 06 Feb 2017 07:00:00 Sat, Feb 04, 2017 10 miles this morning, and I felt much better than expected. Dylan came with me but turned around at 3.5 miles because he only had 7 today. So I was mostly alone, but it was nice because I was able to run whatever pace I was feelin. 7:13 ap Sat, 04 Feb 2017 07:00:00 Fri, Feb 03, 2017 Speed today! Workout was 2x1000m, 3x800m, 4x400m all at 2 mile pace. Everything had 90 sec of rest. Splits were 3:03, 3:08, 2:30, 2:31, 2:32, 72, 72, 67, 68. I'm making some headway on the mental side of things, and the 800's were definitely tough. Fell off pace a little bit on those. But other than that, everything went really well, and I'm super glad I was able to pick things up a little on those last two 400's, that was definitely a confidence builder. Chipping away at that mental block. Shoutout to the team for being super awesome Fri, 03 Feb 2017 07:00:00 Thu, Feb 02, 2017 8 lonely miles, I ran during lunch and 4th period because I had senior pictures after school. 6 of those miles were supposed to be at "easy" pace (5:50-6:50) and I averaged about 6:25ish on those. It actually required some mental focus so that's was definitely beneficial, and today's run was completely continuous, no stops at all. We've got speed tomorrow, I'm excited to see how that goes Thu, 02 Feb 2017 07:00:00 Wed, Feb 01, 2017 7 easy miles, we found a snowy Creek bed and ran in that for a couple miles so that was an adveture Wed, 01 Feb 2017 07:00:00 Tue, Jan 31, 2017
Speed/hills today, and wow it was a good one. Workout was 3x(200m,400m,200m) @mile pace for indoor. All of this on the hill up the murdock canal trail behind smiths. Splits were 30,77,33,32,69,33,33,70,29. The first 200m is a slight uphill but the second 200m gets pretty steep so it was pretty much a sprint up the last 200m every 400. Also, I got the marking at .26 instead of .25 every time for the 400's... so for what it's worth the paces on the 3 400's were 4:58 (this was me realizing how much more I needed to push to hit mile pace uphill), 4:27, and 4:32. Good workout, and an effort I can actually be proud of for once. Good things to come.
Tue, 31 Jan 2017 07:00:00 Mon, Jan 30, 2017
7 miles, and we all brought snow shovels so we could clear the track. We got lanes 1 and 2 completely cleared so that was fantastic, we can now use the track for speed workouts!
Mon, 30 Jan 2017 07:00:00 Sat, Jan 28, 2017 Sat, 28 Jan 2017 07:00:00 Fri, Jan 27, 2017 Fri, 27 Jan 2017 07:00:00 Thu, Jan 26, 2017 The run was... Um... And adventure. It including a slight chance of trespassing. And a much bigger chance of getting skewered by oxen. #callmeshishkabob Thu, 26 Jan 2017 07:00:00 Wed, Jan 25, 2017 8 mile loop down to Lehi HS and back a different way. Good times. Wed, 25 Jan 2017 07:00:00 Tue, Jan 24, 2017 Speed today. 10x200m @goal mile pace for indoor. 2 min jogging rest between each 200. Splits were 31,32,31,33,31,31,31,30,32,30. After #5-7 we did a minute of speed squats, so we got 3 minutes of rest on those. Overall it felt pretty easy.... not exactly a tough workout. We finished mileage with some quality stories and lifted lower body. Shoutout to me bc I squatted 3 pounds more than body weight the last set. Tue, 24 Jan 2017 07:00:00 Mon, Jan 23, 2017 Huge shoutout to Ryan because he came and ran with us today! We went up jail trail and bailed because the snow was thigh deep in some spots. We ran towards point of the mountain on traverse and looped back to the school. Good times. Hakuna Matata Mon, 23 Jan 2017 07:00:00 Sat, Jan 21, 2017 70 min Saturday with Chuck and Mike (and DJ but he turned around pretty early because of mileage). We made a pretty good loop and got completely drenched by the slush being splashed by the cars... So that was cold. And slow bc of the snow and extremely tired legs from yesterday. Sat, 21 Jan 2017 07:00:00 Fri, Jan 20, 2017 Mileage then we did the speed workout on the bikes bc snow on the track. Super intense. Then we lifted lower body so basically my legs are 100% toast from running, biking, and lifting. Fri, 20 Jan 2017 07:00:00 Thu, Jan 19, 2017 Got the days mixed up. This was Tuesday's run, and everything else is shifted one day Thu, 19 Jan 2017 07:00:00 Wed, Jan 18, 2017 7 super easy snowy miles on the trail today, we went up behind IM flash again and almost got mowed over by a herd of elk. They were staring at us for a little too long. Wed, 18 Jan 2017 07:00:00 Tue, Jan 17, 2017 Speed today, and it was actually decent! I went home during lunch so I could do a breathing treatment to prevent my lungs from sabatoging my life. Literally. Lol anyway, the workout was 5x800m @ 2 mile pace. I didn't hit the times I wanted but I was consistent and I didn't die off because of my lungs so I'll call it a success but there's still a long way to go. Also I'm finally getting confidence and motivation back since I can finally finish a speed workout without going into serious oxygen debt from lack of breathing. 3 cheers for semi-healthy lungs Tue, 17 Jan 2017 07:00:00 Mon, Jan 16, 2017 Went to LP practice. 6:55 AP. My legs were pretty tired from the 5k so the run was a little bit of a struggle but it's all good I survived lol. Shoutout to dalpal because he's a pal Mon, 16 Jan 2017 07:00:00
