Bob Firman. What a doozie. We warmed up a mile, then did our stretches and drills in the starting area so we could get a good box. Shout out to Austin for picking one of the best boxes out there. We got out well, and the first mile was pretty darn fast. The whole first mile I was panicking a little bit because of how fast we went out. 4:59. At the same time I was trying to get up with Thom, Connor, and Ryan. I don't know what happened to me after that. I slowed down considerably and got passed by a ton of guys. Michael caught up to me and I did what I could to stay with him, but it just didn't happen. The further I ran the more I seemed to feel like crap and nothing went right. Michael pulled ahead and 3/4 mile away from the finish I got a sideache and it hurt to breath. Somehow I made it up the hill for the last time and passed a couple guys in my attempt of a kick. My finishing time was barely under 17, a whole minute off where I wanted to be. I looked at the results, and had I been where I should have been, we would have had a very real shot at winning. I talked to Jamie about it and she keeps telling me it's not my fault. Here's the thing. I know I can stay with Thomas. I've done it in 90% of the speed workouts we've had. However, come race day, I keep choking and nothing goes my way. I don't know what's wrong. Papa Heaps said Jackie is struggling with some of the same things and she went to see a sports psychologist to help. He also recommended a book to help with the mental side of things. I know it's mental, I just need to figure it out. Wish me luck. On the bright side, we took 4th, and Guppy took 12th in her race, out-kicking Aubrey Argyle. |
