We had region today, and let me tell ya, it was a great thing. We warmed up a mile, did our drills in the starting area, and got our box. The boxes were sick because everyone could fit on the front line. So the race started, and today was different than anything else previously. I was relaxed, strong, and insanely competitive the first mile. 4:52, came through in 3rd place. Then the second mile happened, and I began to slip mentally. 5:15, with a 10:07 2-mile split, also happening to be my new 2-mile PR. The last mile was 5:33, and I had a decent kick the last .12. All in all today was a solid step in the right direction with a new 5k PR by 17 seconds, 16:10. Here's what I'm going to do next time. I'm still going to go out at whatever pace feels good for the day. At that point, I'm going to lock in my position and not let anybody pass me. Period. Then the last mile I'm going to move up and finish strong. The biggest thing I can do to get better is be more competitive the whole time. The first mile I was very very competitive, but after the first 1.75 miles, I wasn't near as competitive. Shout out to everyone who came to watch the race today, and to Coach Jamie for being awesome |
