I was going to do my hill workout today, but decided against it because I can do it tomorrow while the team is doing whistle hills. Pretty good distance run. My legs have been so dead recently... I think it's because I'm not eating very well. Quantity or quality so I'll go home and eat some veggies 👍

Gill and Chuck came to my house to get me to run this morning so shout-out to them. I did 4x400m hills @mile effort up center street and that was kinda brutal... Especially after lifting yesterday... Splits were 83,86,93,79. I went hard on the last one and shout-out to Chuck for doing that last one with me.

Also. Everybody who is in HS and needs xc spikes, come to Utah run tomorrow from 5-8. I'll hook you up with a discount and there will be snacks and a raffle

12 mile trail loop with Gill, Parker, and Ryan. We thought it was gonna be 10 but we took a wrong turn and it made 12. Haha which is awesome because I needed 12 anyway! We were cruising which was awesome but miles 9 and 10 were a little rough because we though we were getting close but we definitely weren't and it was a 9.4% grade. Definitely had a blast though so shout-out to them

The workout today was 10,8,6,4,2 (minutes) with half rest, so 5,4,3,2. I decided to do this one on grass, in spikes. My paces were 5:41 for the 10min, 5:48 for the 8min, 5:46 for the 6min, 5:38 for the 4min, and 5:25 for the 2min. This was a tough one, especially alone. During the 6min one I realized that I was just trying to hang on to the pace, rather than consciously pushing the pace. I made that switch and although it hurt pretty bad, I was able to do the 4min and the 2min faster. I'm happy with the effort.

Weights and core after, aka death to my legs.

Also, I leave for ISU in a week so that's kinda scary

The run today for camp was at potato hill and it was pretty darn fun. We were cruising and my legs were definitely super tired, but what's new? We had 3 sub-6's on the trail, chasing various course records. Although we didn't end up getting any because strava counts elapsed time and we were stopping to mark the course at every fork. So that was a bummer. I took the last couple miles pretty easy because my body is very very tired.

HAHAHA however. Parker, Gill, and I are going to attempt the FKT for Lone Peak tomorrow morning up Jacob's Ladder. 17% grade, 6.55 miles, and we have to do it in less than 89 minutes to get the record. 15min miles. IT'S GONNA HURT but that's alright 5672 FEET OF ELEVATION. OWWWWW.

Alrighty. A quick introduction to Jacob's Ladder/Lone Peak. We gained 5,416 feet in  5.86 miles. Mile 3 has 1,554 feet of gain. In the last .86, you have some pretty sketchy scrambling up to the peak, like it's seriously steep and legitimately dangerous. Also, the "hike" has an "HC" classification, which is: HC climb - "Hors Categorie" - (a French term for above category) climbs are the hardest rating/score given to any climb. All climb scores are based on distance, grade/elevation change, and maximum elevation. The combination of these factors drives all final climb categories and there is no subjective analysis used in the final scoring of any climb score. HC climbs will traditionally be very long (over 10 miles), very steep (average grades above 8 to 10%), or very high (above 11,000 feet) but again some extremely steep or long climbs could alone qualify it as an HC rated climb.

We wanted the FKT (fastest known time), which is just under 90 minutes. Since we weren't anticipating taking forever, we didn't bring any water and we had just a couple gu's.

We  got going, and the first couple miles went by pretty smoothly and I felt pretty strong, alternating between powerhiking in steep spots and running in runable spots. 546 and 722 feet for those miles. Then mile 3 came. I was still feeling fairly strong but it's simply not runable so we powerhiked it. 1554 feet. 668 and 774 feet for miles 4 and 5, we hit some insanely beautiful views and meadows. Somewhere in mile 5 we lost the trail, and ended up climbing up the rock face to try to get to the peak. the last .86 had 1,025 feet of gain. On the way down we ran into a couple people and asked for water, which luckily they had because we were all hurting as far as water goes. I barely kept my sanity.

This run/hike/whatever you want to call it was an insane experience and although we didn't get the FKT, it was still very worth it. Now I gotta rehydrate and rest...

Shoutout to Gill and Parker for being my buddies, my last week in Utah has been a good one.

I did this one with Herschel, and while I felt better today, my legs were definitely still pretty heavy the whole time. We did average under 7 though so that was good. I hit 60 miles this week, more than I have ever done. I'm tired, but I feel no injuries or anything. And the miles this week weren't easy, I had some hard workouts/runs. Things are looking up for the season!

2 mile warmup with the team, and I got my spikes on for the cut-down race when my coach came up to me and said I couldn't practice with the team yet because the health department wanted to clear me for activity themselves because of all the health stuff that happened last track season... so that was lame. It was cool to watch I guess. I finished up miles later with Joe. Hopefully I'm clear to be at practice tomorrow because I saw the doctor today and got everything figured out. Hopefully it's processed tomorrow.

The first full day in Idaho was a success. The guys I'm living with are awesome so I'm looking forward to this year. It's a relief to finally be here after stressing about it for so long.

Also, the gear Adidas gave us is sweeeeeet. A lot of clothes, and a bunch of shoes!

Speed today! The workout was changed from 5x1500 with 100m jog in between to 5x1000m with 600m @6:00-6:10 in between. Still pretty brutal. My paces for the 1k's were 5:09, 5:12, 5:32, 5:32, 5:30. Paces for the rest were 5:43, 6:07, 6:21, 6:20, 5:52. It's crazy how easy 6 flat feels right after going fast. I stuck with Ricky and Garrett (the two other freshmen) for the first couple and fell off them about 30m, but I caught back up at the end so that was good. 5:43 average for 5 miles so I'm happy with it.

More speed today! The workout was 6x800m on the grass with 3 minutes rest. Let it be known that my legs were destroyed before we even started this sucker, from weights and the subsequent run last night. It was in the heat of the day, so that was rough. My splits were 2:31, 2:35, 2:38, 2:37, 2:37, 2:36. The first couple were rough, and I was struggling to keep my cool mentally. Nate came up and talked to me, asking how I felt. I told him I had nothing in my legs, they just didn't have much to give. He told me that regardless of how I felt physically, I needed to stay in it mentally. I relaxed, got into a groove, put my head down, and drove through the rest of the workout.

I'm very proud of my effort today, even though the workout wasn't that crazy. I was always towards the back, but I never completely fell off the pack and I was able to negative split the last couple reps. Really tough stuff today. Got it done. I'm excited to see what's next, haha at least after I can walk normally again.

I'm definitely not feeling 100%, if I had to put a number on it, I was feeling 60-70% today. Still a big improvement. Splits were 5:52, 5:41, 5:27, 5:36, 5:42, and 6:02 pace for the last .29.
