Another 6 miles. Big T took 10 years to pack up his fancy lil vest in the middle of the run so it took much longer than necessary. It's ok though, Thomas accidentally hit a car with a snowball so that was exciting.

Crazy run up the jail trail then exploring a canyon up there. The snow got pretty deep and we were pretty freaking cold. I almost rolled my ankle like 50 times. We decided to bushwhack our way back to the intersection on timp highway because we didn't want to go back the way we came so that was exciting. Crazy run

Michael, Ryan, and I ran on the Provo river trail and Michael accidentally dipped a foot in the river. First speed workout today. 3 sets of 3x300m.  45 sec rest within the set and 4 min active between sets. Splits were 45, 49, 48, 46,52,57,48,55,59. The goal was to hit 48's (4:16 pace) but my body wasn't cooperating today. The asthma flared up in the second and third sets, and I felt like I just couldn't move my legs. I had a pretty bad headache after, threw up/dry heaved for a good 5 minutes, and felt slightly dizzy. Maybe I'm just being a wimp. Champions aren't made by not hitting splits. Who knows

Super slow recovery run today, and we found a sweet new trail up by IM Flash so that was amazing. And muddy...

Did a mile later while putting flyers in people's doors for Michael's eagle project so that's an extra mile I guess

We went up by IM Flash again, though this time was much more enjoyable because it was all snowy so there wasn't any mud. Lol I did get "caught" (aka tackled) by Mike and Riley and scraped up my knee a little on the rocks under the snow, but no injuries so that's grand. Such an incredibly fun run

7 lonely miles during third period because I'm going to st George for the weekend. I decided to not look at my watch just for fun and ended up getting 7 miles in exactly 49 minutes so that was kinda cool. I didn't do the workout because I'm running a 5k tomorrow in St Geezy. It'll prolly be a moderate progression run. Lol not looking to break any records.

1 mile warmup, then got to the start line. The original plan was just to go around 6:30, 6:00, 5:30, just to get the legs moving a little bit and to have a good time. However, a half mile in to the race it was just me and one other guy (I did go out a little faster than 6:30 but I couldn't help myself lol) so I decided to ditch the plan and go with the flow. First mile was 5:47, then I took the lead and the other guy (his name is Carson btw and he goes to pineview) sat on me for a little bit. Second mile was 5:25. We passed each other back and forth and going into the final .1 I was barely in the lead but he unleashed a pretty crazy kick that I had a hard time matching, so he won. The last mile was 5:27, so pretty consistent. It was a good tempo/race/idk what to call it. It wasn't a race effort but it was a little harder than tempo... Eh whatever. It was a good time. 3 mile cooldown.

Shoutout to my dad and Trenton for running the half

Speed today, and it was actually decent! I went home during lunch so I could do a breathing treatment to prevent my lungs from sabatoging my life. Literally. Lol anyway, the workout was 5x800m @ 2 mile pace. I didn't hit the times I wanted but I was consistent and I didn't die off because of my lungs so I'll call it a success but there's still a long way to go. Also I'm finally getting confidence and motivation back since I can finally finish a speed workout without going into serious oxygen debt from lack of breathing. 3 cheers for semi-healthy lungs

After #5-7 we did a minute of speed squats, so we got 3 minutes of rest on those. Overall it felt pretty easy.... not exactly a tough workout. Speed/hills today, and wow it was a good one. Workout was 3x(200m,400m,200m) @mile pace for indoor. All of this on the hill up the murdock canal trail behind smiths. Splits were 30,77,33,32,69,33,33,70,29. The first 200m is a slight uphill but the second 200m gets pretty steep so it was pretty much a sprint up the last 200m every 400. Also, I got the marking at .26 instead of .25 every time for the 400's... so for what it's worth the paces on the 3 400's were 4:58 (this was me realizing how much more I needed to push to hit mile pace uphill), 4:27, and 4:32.  Good workout, and an effort I can actually be proud of for once. Good things to come.

8 lonely miles, I ran during lunch and 4th period because I had senior pictures after school. 6 of those miles were supposed to be at "easy" pace (5:50-6:50) and I averaged about 6:25ish on those. It actually required some mental focus so that's was definitely beneficial, and today's run was completely continuous, no stops at all. We've got speed tomorrow, I'm excited to see how that goes

Speed today! Workout was 2x1000m, 3x800m, 4x400m all at 2 mile pace. Everything had 90 sec of rest. Splits were 3:03, 3:08, 2:30, 2:31, 2:32, 72, 72, 67, 68. I'm making some headway on the mental side of things, and the 800's were definitely tough. Fell off pace a little bit on those. But other than that, everything went really well, and I'm super glad I was able to pick things up a little on those last two 400's, that was definitely a confidence builder. Chipping away at that mental block. Shoutout to the team for being super awesome

I figured I'd start running today because my foot has felt fantastic so I did and it went well! We had speed, so I warmed up a mile with the guys and did some of it! 3x400m @mile pace, hit 66,66,66. The full workout was 6x400m @mile pace then 4x100m all out. After my 400's (which felt fantastic by the way), I hopped on a bike and did 2x(8x(20 sec super hard, 10 sec easy)) with 2 min in between sets. WOW. That bike workout doesn't sound too bad but once you do it... major ouchage right there. It took a good 10 minutes of resting my head on the handlebars to convince myself to start a cooldown after I was done with that one. Good times.

So this was an interesting one. I warmed up with Chuck (mighty windy outside, almost lost my new hat 😬) then got started. I was in the first heat with Talon Hull, Hayden Penrod, and Joe Benson so it was definitely gonna be a good time. The first 800 went pretty well (came through at about 2:16), I was sitting in about 4th... Then things got interesting. I've been sick since Tuesday (been trying to keep it under control) and it definitely flared up. Legs felt like lead and lungs/throat were on fire. Kinda frustrating because I know I'm capable of getting to finals and I gave what I had today, I just didn't have enough to give. Hr never went below 85 today. Body not up to par.

On the bright side, Chuck (4:36), Michael (9:36), Guppy (5:20), and Gan (5:27) made it to finals so congrats to them!

Splits were 29,63,29,29,66,29. 1 min rest within the set and 5 minutes running rest between sets (with 15 lunges on each leg mixed in there). I was pretty happy with this one, my foot didn't hurt at all the whole time and I was able to stay fairly consistent. That second 400 needs a little work but it wasn't horrible. Just kinda fell off mentally. But no worries because I'm getting it back my friends!

What. A. Day. I went to the school at 7 to warm up on the bikes and do the workout on my own because I had to be at a 5k in Provo at 9. The workout was 20x400m. First 5 at 5k pace, second 5 at 2-mile pace, third 5 at mile pace, and last 5 at whatever you have left. Splits were 76,76,76,74,78,72,71,72,72,72,67,69,69,69,69,68,68,70,69,67. Very difficult on my own and the last couple sets weren't near as good as they were last year. I was dying. Anyway, I went to the 5k and just did it at a super easy pace as a cooldown. Halfway through I had to stop and walk because my left chest, shoulder, and arm was aching and going numb.

Update on Saturday: I had a heart attack during that 5k, that's why my heart was hurting and my arm went numb. I should've gone to the ER (doctor got mad about that today) but I just walked it off and went to work, where I felt like I got hit by a train the rest of the day. I'm getting some tests done and going to the hospital on Thursday to figure out what's going on. On the bright side, I now have an answer as to why I've been doing not so good lately. More to come on Thursday.

Numbness isn't a symptom of a heart attack, it's a symptom of a stroke. If it was a heart attack you'd feel shooting pains. Are you sure this isn't a misdiagnoses, bc I've never heard of someone walking off a heart attack

From Eugene on Mon, Mar 13, 2017 at 16:26:06 from 98.251.118.86

I mean I guess I could be wrong but everything I've heard, read, and been taught says numbness and myocardial infections aren't correlated

From Collin Morrison on Mon, Mar 13, 2017 at 17:27:09 from 67.166.105.173

It was more an achy, cold sweat, tingly, numb-related sensation (I said numb to easily describe it) and this is just what the cardiologist told me. My heart didn't stop (obviously, I'm still here) and I don't have all the answers (I get more on Thursday). The EKG today revealed a slow valve which definitely could've been part of the problem, but again, doesn't have all the answers. With was we know right now it was most like a mitral valve prolapse, meaning it is aggravated with physical exertion (which would explain why walking helped) I had other symptoms I didn't put in the post but I'm going to trust the doctor on this one. Either way it shouldn't have happened and we're finding out more soon.

Warmed up, then raced the 800. Usually I'm pretty conservative right off the line, but it was cramped so I figured I should get out as hard as possible. I still got elbowed and sucked into the pack, where we went out waayyy too slow. On the back stretch I saw an opening and moved out to lane 4 and surged to the front, and hauled for the next 200, even though my first lap was still only a 60-61. Chris then passed me and my legs/lungs/body started to catch up to me. I'm making some progress, but it's slow. I can honestly say I gave everything I had so I'm proud of it but I'm hungry for faster times. It's a long road back.

Anyway, the workout was 9 reps @ 800 pace. 300's until you misspace by at least 2 sec, the shift down to 200's until the same thing, and then shift to 100's. 1 min rest in between everything (ISH, it was hard to get to the 200 in that time lol). I did 3 300's and 6 200's. Splits were 48,47,50,34,33,33,33,32,31. We added 2 seconds for the wind, so I was going for 46's and 31's. The wind was crazy. Breathing got bad but I was able to finish this one strong-ish so that's definitely some more improvement.

Warmed up 1.5, then got going. First lap was 66-67, and 800 was 2:15. After that my lungs/airway started to seize up and things just went downhill from there. Finishing time was 4:40ish. It's a step in the right direction, but I just wish I was back already.

I did a tune-up workout for Arcadia this weekend. Due to the lack of availability of a track, I just did it on the path by the beach and went off the distances on my watch. The workout was 3x(400m,200m) at mile pace. My splits were 67,32,65,33,65,32. My breathing still got pretty bad even though I'm at sea level... Idk what else to do to help it. On the bright side, we spent so serious time on the beach so that was great

I'm gonna shoot straight w you my boy. I'm not gonna say "you'll have your race soon!" Because you might not. You don't just wait for something to happen in this sport. You gotta grind harder than everyone else to have your race because you know what it's like to run fast, so do what you did to be able to be so good in the first place and GRIND

Dude, you're an amazing runner! Take a step back, relax, take a week or so off from running, then come back nice and easy. You're never gonna hit what you want if you don't love it and right now it sounds like you aren't loving it. That was how my xc season was last year and after I backed off, I started to improve tremendously.

My coach said I can just do whatever this week, I'm not doing speed and probably not racing this weekend, just running on my own and learning to love it again.

Later on I felt like going on another run and I ended up going 6 so that was a good time

I did another stress test at the hospital today... but they couldn't find the key to the treadmill so they had me sprint up the stairs until I couldn't breathe then stuck a camera down my throat. So that was thrilling. I got some drillls/exercises to do to help my vocal cords calm down so those should help a lot, and I'm on my way to being back! Race today. I felt really good mentally going into it, and I'd been doing my breathing exercises consistently so that was good. First lap was 58, so that was pretty darn good, and it felt like the easiest 58 I've done in a long long time. Then my legs just died on me and they wouldn't respond the last 300. BUT I'll take the victory of my breathing not bothering me, and next time I won't do stair sprints the day before a race lol. Gotta get my legs to respond, time to start back up running. Feeling good physically and mentally. It's helpful to keep perspective on everything.

Whelp. Speed today. The workout was the same one we did a little while ago, where we did 9 reps of something @800 pace starting at 300m until we fell off pace, moving to 200m and then 100m. Except we did 12 reps. I ended up doing 7 and trying to finish on the bikes because I was hyperventilating and couldn't get it under control. Splits were 45,47,49,34,32,32,31. We adjusted 2 seconds for the wind and had a a 2 sec buffer to hit pace. Kinda frustrating but gotta find joy in the journey I guess. On the bright side, my legs felt fantastic! I just gotta stay diligent with the breathing exercises.

Definitely a step in the right direction. I was really aggressive off the line so I wouldn't get boxed in, and it definitely payed off. Came through 200 in 27 and 400 in 58-59. The second lap I started to tighten up but I was able to relax and keep pushing. The last 15 meters a guy came up next to me and I thought "No. You're not passing me. Not a chance." And I guess I had another gear so I held him off. That is a very good sign that I have more to give. It's just a matter of being able to push myself to that level. Grateful to God for giving me the ability to run at all.

I was ambitious in this one. I got out really well and went straight to the lead and through 200 in 27. 400 in 57. Good pacing. 600 I was still in the lead and came through at 1:30, still good pacing. Then... I tried to maintain form but it felt like the last 100 of a 400 where you just die. My form seized up, and that last 200 was a 34 😬. After the race I had one of the worst headaches I've ever had. Threw up twice. Laid down on the grass for a good 45 minutes before I felt good enough to sit up... I guess I just haven't been able to push myself like that for a while because of my breathing, so I guess that's a good thing?... Lol kinda sucked though. That was my fastest time this season, so it's improvement. I'll take it.

Big shoutout to Michael for the big PR and state qualification, 4:21!

Not at all what I wanted the end of my HS career to be. I told myself before the race, "This is it. It's now or never. Finish out strong." I was ready to grind. I was in the second heat, but I was still going to go for the state qualifying time because why not? The race started, I got off the line as hard as I could, but I got boxed in, and bam. Someone fell, so I had a second chance. The race started a second time, and I tried so hard to get out well. But I kid you not, I literally tried to move my legs and they were like "nope." And it took a split second to get off the line. Boxed in. Again. On the back stretch I forced my way out and surged to second place behind Parker. 200m in 31. Smh. Hauled butt right behind Parker and we came through at 60/61. On the back stretch I was trying to push but it just wasn't coming. It's like my legs were telling me "Hey man we're done for the day, sorry." Ugh. I was fighting so hard it just didn't come. Last 200 was really bad. On the back stretch I was screaming at myself, "GO. GO NOW." Nothing.

This year has been a lot of ups and downs. Mostly downs actually. Not a single PR, not even close. I'm looking forward to some much needed easy running and rest.

No cooldown again bc I had to rush to work.

I was planning on serving an LDS mission beginning in this summer and I would get home in time to start school in the fall of 2019. However I actually had a change of plans, and I am going to college for a year, competing during that year, and will be serving my mission beginning next summer, so I will return in the summer/fall of 2020.

Legitimately one of the funnest/craziest/wildest runs I've ever been on. We started out by simply saying "Hey let's go up jail trail!" Then that turned to "Let's go up to that ridge!" Then, "Let's go to that telephone pole!", Then "Let's get that ridge up there!" (keep in mind that it's crazy steep and we're splitting like 15 min miles and snow is pelting us and my face was numb lol), and finally, "Look! The top is right there! Let's get it!" One last insane climb to the top of traverse. 1700 feet of elevation gain in 2.5 miles. AKA ouch central accompanied by some sick bushwacking. On the way down we were flying. The 5th mile was sub-5 for some of us, on not so stable footing. I split 5:15, and I was taking trying not to die. Haha and you know it's an interesting run when Parker gets a course record for being completely reckless and getting down to 3:35 pace down one of the hills. Glad you're alive Chuck.

10.5 miles on the day and wow it was good. 4 at state cooling down with the 3200 guys, then 6 later after the meet at night. Chuck gave us a sweet run to top off the season. We started at North Lake Park, and continued into one of the most beautiful and eventful runs ever. We were high of fatigue and the thrill of having a good time. We went to a hot pot where we hopped in and it was mighty toasty. The real eventful part was on the way back when it was real dark and we were real hyped. We passed multiple people smoking weed so that was interesting and we got some weird looks. Lol no shirts, short shorts, drenched from the hot pot, we probably looked high ourselves! Wowowowow such a good time. And a great way to end the season on a high note.

Root beer mile today! The first can was quite a shock, and that lap was definitely my slowest. Second can came, I burped quite a bit, but kept it down and chugged through another lap. 3rd can... Lol this is when it started to hit me. I just kept drinking and drinking and halfway through I threw up... What a good time. After throwing up I chugged the rest no problem, and had a pretty quick lap. The 4th can seriously took so long to get down. I think I threw up a second time, haha and after that I guzzled the root beer and sprinted the last lap. Stomach was full and felt like crap but pushed through 😂 about a minute shower than last year, probably all in that last can tbh. Haha good time though.

shoutout to LP for putting it on and for the good time. Also shoutout to Craik for beating Emily in a 200.

8 miles in the morning, I was so dead! Probably dehydrated. Actually definitely dehydrated so I'll work on that. Haha anyway my original plan was to run along a pretty big road and find a path to the state park on the other side of dense shrubbery by the road. I started down the road and it was like timp highway but with no shoulder. So I went the other way, got pinned again, and resorted back to my original plan. Haha I probably almost died a lot but it was a good time. Found my way into the state park and got on some sweet trails. I did some loops in there and went back to the hotel.

7 miles today, and I slept in until 9:45 because I was up so late so that's kind of a win but not really? But kind of? Lol anyway, I went faster today because my coach wants all my runs to be at 6:30 or faster by early-mid July, so that's just grand. I averaged 6:33, and I felt better than I have in a long time. Haha I seriously need to work on getting more sleep though. Good times.

I just felt terrible... It was so forced the whole time and it was so hot. I'm trying to draw positives because that's a good thing to do but nothing but negatives are showing up. Top of Zion leg 2. I was really tired before I even started this one. I had Gill drop me off early so I could prepare mentally because I was already hurting. I made sure to drink a lot and eat a lot in between legs. I got going, and it was just a constant wall the whole time. The leg was 7 miles on a steady (very very gradual, barely noticeable) uphill. I only made it 4 miles. Splits were 7:06,7:35,8:18,10:10.

After the first mile I kept hearing cars come up behind me and I would look back and nothing was there. Not a soul. That happened a lot. I met my van at 2 miles and they soaked me and gave me some water which was good. Then I was really in for it. About a half mile after that I stopped sweating (still 80-90 degrees ish) and my mouth was completely dry. I forced myself to keep running because I kept telling myself I wasn't a wimp. I was strong. I would not give up. I walked a couple times and I was so out of breath. I ended up just praying that the van would be there with more water. I was weaving back and forth, still hearing cars yet the road was empty. I would feel my mind start to slip and I would force it back into focus. It got harder as time went on.

I saw the van driving back (probably because they noticed I was taking a lot longer than usual) and as soon as they tried to help I collapsed. I know it sounds dramatic and I hate it too but that's what happened. My legs would not move. They were jelly. Parker and Gill helped me into the car and Michael got out and finished my leg. Over the next 3 hours I was in and out of sanity and in a heck of a lot of pain. Kaylee and Guppy have training for this stuff so they were helping me. I don't remember much. Just that when I finally came to it was about 8:30. They picked me up at 5:30-6:00. I vividly remember the run, and the distinct feeling in the van that I just didn't need to breathe. I just didn't breathe for a while because it was too much work and Kaylee would shake me and tell me to breathe. I'm so grateful Kaylee and Guppy helped me.

Michael, Austin, and Kobe gave me a priesthood blessing and apparently I got progressively better after that. I'm so grateful for them.

My third leg was cancelled because of smoke but I felt so bad for not completing my second leg. I was fighting so hard. My body just shut down. I don't know why. I prepared the best I could. I did my best to support the team

I'm writing this in such detail so I can remember it and hopefully learn something from it in order to avoid this in the future.

Huge shoutout to Gill for putting together our team and to the team for working so hard and being so amazing. Lol also shoutout to anybody who actually read this whole thing

6 miles with Joe on the trails, we technically have a speed workout this week but I started training a week late so I think I'll do it next week, depending on what coach says. So I warmed up with Joe, massaged my quad while he did hill repeats, and cooled down with him. Mileage is a little low but I need the rest so I'll probably just do 9 tomorrow, 8 Thursday, 7 Friday, and 12 Saturday for my long run. My legs are tired but I feel better than I did yesterday, and Joe said something interesting. "If you feel good on recovery days then you're not working hard enough," Couldn't agree more!

I took a cross-train day to give my soleus another day to recover. I should be good to go tomorrow. I did some solid aquajogging, 10min warmup, 2x15min hard with 2min rest, and 10min cooldown. I definitely worked hard, my legs are toast. The workout today was supposed to be 2x15min tempo so I pretty much just did that in the pool. Good times.

The workout today was 10,8,6,4,2 (minutes) with half rest, so 5,4,3,2. I decided to do this one on grass, in spikes. My paces were 5:41 for the 10min, 5:48 for the 8min, 5:46 for the 6min, 5:38 for the 4min, and 5:25 for the 2min. This was a tough one, especially alone. During the 6min one I realized that I was just trying to hang on to the pace, rather than consciously pushing the pace. I made that switch and although it hurt pretty bad, I was able to do the 4min and the 2min faster. I'm happy with the effort.

Weights and core after, aka death to my legs.

The run today for camp was at potato hill and it was pretty darn fun. We were cruising and my legs were definitely super tired, but what's new? We had 3 sub-6's on the trail, chasing various course records. Although we didn't end up getting any because strava counts elapsed time and we were stopping to mark the course at every fork. So that was a bummer. I took the last couple miles pretty easy because my body is very very tired.

HAHAHA however. Parker, Gill, and I are going to attempt the FKT for Lone Peak tomorrow morning up Jacob's Ladder. 17% grade, 6.55 miles, and we have to do it in less than 89 minutes to get the record. 15min miles. IT'S GONNA HURT but that's alright 5672 FEET OF ELEVATION. OWWWWW.

Alrighty. A quick introduction to Jacob's Ladder/Lone Peak. We gained 5,416 feet in  5.86 miles. Mile 3 has 1,554 feet of gain. In the last .86, you have some pretty sketchy scrambling up to the peak, like it's seriously steep and legitimately dangerous. Also, the "hike" has an "HC" classification, which is: HC climb - "Hors Categorie" - (a French term for above category) climbs are the hardest rating/score given to any climb. All climb scores are based on distance, grade/elevation change, and maximum elevation. The combination of these factors drives all final climb categories and there is no subjective analysis used in the final scoring of any climb score. HC climbs will traditionally be very long (over 10 miles), very steep (average grades above 8 to 10%), or very high (above 11,000 feet) but again some extremely steep or long climbs could alone qualify it as an HC rated climb.

We wanted the FKT (fastest known time), which is just under 90 minutes. Since we weren't anticipating taking forever, we didn't bring any water and we had just a couple gu's.

We  got going, and the first couple miles went by pretty smoothly and I felt pretty strong, alternating between powerhiking in steep spots and running in runable spots. 546 and 722 feet for those miles. Then mile 3 came. I was still feeling fairly strong but it's simply not runable so we powerhiked it. 1554 feet. 668 and 774 feet for miles 4 and 5, we hit some insanely beautiful views and meadows. Somewhere in mile 5 we lost the trail, and ended up climbing up the rock face to try to get to the peak. the last .86 had 1,025 feet of gain. On the way down we ran into a couple people and asked for water, which luckily they had because we were all hurting as far as water goes. I barely kept my sanity.

This run/hike/whatever you want to call it was an insane experience and although we didn't get the FKT, it was still very worth it. Now I gotta rehydrate and rest...

Shoutout to Gill and Parker for being my buddies, my last week in Utah has been a good one.

It was cool to watch I guess. I finished up miles later with Joe. Hopefully I'm clear to be at practice tomorrow because I saw the doctor today and got everything figured out. Hopefully it's processed tomorrow.

More speed today! The workout was 6x800m on the grass with 3 minutes rest. Let it be known that my legs were destroyed before we even started this sucker, from weights and the subsequent run last night. It was in the heat of the day, so that was rough. My splits were 2:31, 2:35, 2:38, 2:37, 2:37, 2:36. The first couple were rough, and I was struggling to keep my cool mentally. Nate came up and talked to me, asking how I felt. I told him I had nothing in my legs, they just didn't have much to give. He told me that regardless of how I felt physically, I needed to stay in it mentally. I relaxed, got into a groove, put my head down, and drove through the rest of the workout.

I'm very proud of my effort today, even though the workout wasn't that crazy. I was always towards the back, but I never completely fell off the pack and I was able to negative split the last couple reps. Really tough stuff today. Got it done. I'm excited to see what's next, haha at least after I can walk normally again.

Wow. First college race. It basically hurt really bad, the course is super hilly so that kinda sucked. There's about 50 feet less elevation gain than footlocker, just to put it in perspective. I fought really hard, and I felt good about it mentally. I didn't give up. Just didn't come together today.

8x1k this morning, with 3min rest, jogging the 200m back to the start. Splits were 3:09, 3:05, 3:04, 3:07, 3:09, 3:13, 3:15, 3:10. For those of you who aren't familiar with what pace that is (hi Mom), they were 4:54, 4:46, 4:49, 4:51, 4:51, 5:02, 5:06, 4:54. I am very happy with how that went, especially with how bad the last couple days have been. I fell off the group a bit after the first 3, so I was usually alone after the first lap on those, but the paces were good. Just gotta run my pace.

From Eugene on Wed, Sep 06, 2017 at 10:25:20 from 107.219.99.239

I think your time/pace analysis might be a bit off compadre. A 3:07 kilometer is 5 flat pace(2:30 800m + 37.5 200m). Either way good job and keep working

From Eugene on Wed, Sep 06, 2017 at 10:26:28 from 107.219.99.239

Looking again at your entry I'm guessing you ran on a track and listed your pace from your watch on that? Since tracks are a small closed loop the pace is usually 15-ish seconds too fast by your watch's standards

From Collin Morrison on Wed, Sep 06, 2017 at 10:56:51 from 134.50.119.22

Workout today. 2x3mi @LT with 2min rest. We did out and back, and the out portion was slightly uphill with a slight headwind. Nate said to keep it purely effort based, so we can better learn where that LT line is. I felt like I found that line and stuck on it so that was good. Splits according to Strava were 5:48, 5:58, 5:38 for the first one, and 5:44, 5:34, 5:44 for the second one. I feel like I was very within myself and it wasn't an all out effort. It was hard, yes, but I wasn't dying. I found the line and rode it. Good day.

Splits were 5:23, 5:42, 5:41, 5:40, 5:25. Nate said to chill for the first 2 or 3 miles then started picking people off in mile 4, and go for broke in mile 5. I did that, and I'm happy with how it went. I had more in the tank, and I definitely could've pushed harder in the middle miles. Very good first 8k. Happy but not satisfied.

Nice job Collin! In my personal experience unless you race really badly the last mile of an 8k ends up being quick because you conserve more energy than you think since it's a 5 mile race. Now you just have to work on strength and get those middle miles in the 5:20's too!

This was the last race of my season, because I'm not going to conference or anything. Pretty crazy that my first collegiate season is already over. The race went well. It's 2 laps, 2.8k each lap. So 5.6k race. About half of each lap is uphill, so that was fun... I kept the first lap fairly casual so I wouldn't die on the second lap, and I executed that well. I came through the lap at 10:19 and finished at 20:45 so that was good. I felt like I was able to push the whole time. Good stuff.

Lifting before the workout

Workout today, 12x400m @68 with 2min rest. This one wasn't meant to be super hard. Splits were 71, 68, 66, 68, 68, 66, 68, 67, 68, 67, 69, 64. The last one was supposed to be 65-66 just to move a little faster, haha even though we kinda struggled with pacing. Not a crazy difficult workout, but it was a good confidence builder considering we lifted before the workout and I was feeling pretty freaking tired anyway.

As of late I've been alternating between running 40 and 47 miles a week (a decrease from earlier in the season) because that's what my coach had me do. He structures my training, and that's what I've been able to do without getting hurt so far.

Thank you about the picture!

The tempo was good, I keep finishing closer and closer to the group and I was with Conner through the end so that was really good. The 800's were a little rough, my breathing got pretty tight but I think it was more a result of my form tightening up from going fast than anything. The 800s were really rough, I felt like I hit a wall. But I got back on track for the 400s. And I was able to stick on the pace for the miles which hardly ever happens so I was really happy with that.

I only got .25 on the cooldown because my calf hurt pretty bad. After weights I went to the trainer and she did some work on it so it should be getting better

Long run in St George. We stopped here to run then drove the rest of the way to California. It took a good 5 miles to warm up because I'd been sitting in the car forever and I was tired anyway. But after that the run was good. Shout-out to Conner Mantz because he caught me when I had one more mile and ran with me for my last mile. It's too bad I was done because it would've been nice to have someone the whole time. Anyway, I'm glad he was there!

Also, I might request a longer long run because 12 miles is starting to not feel bad at all

I was only able to get 6 in this morning before DL because I had a little speed workout that took forever. it was 4x10sec hill sprint, 4x20sec hill sprint. I did it on an overpass because there are no hills around here and that worked just fine! At least my quads are telling me that was just fine lol

P.S. I dropped my phone yesterday in DL and the screen was slowly consumed by blackness so it is 100% broken. Juuuusssttt great! But for real DL is super fun

10 this morning... I'm pretty wrecked from the last couple days so it wasn't very fast but it's done! One more day of waking up freaking early then I'm back home!

Update: As I write this I have 36,452 steps on the day according to my watch. Lots of running and lots of walking

Last day of running in California, we drove back today. I only did 6 because something in my ankle tightened up pretty bad and it definitely hurts so I will take a look at that. I might be cross training for the next couple days to be safe.

I did the workout today, 6x30sec hill repeats. The pace just said "fast" so I did that I guess haha. I was pretty wrecked afterward because I'm still sick and my ankle flared up, so I just did 4.5

I did 7 after work today. I was able to work a 9 hour shift which was long but I'm glad I got the hours because I need the money. I'm feeling a lot better as far as sickness goes, but my ankle hurt decently bad the whole time. It never got super bad so I kept going, but idk how it's gonna feel tomorrow.

Biking today. I did a little tuning up on my vintage road bike and when I got 30min out the pedal literally fell off. So shout-out to Logan for picking me up. Then I went to the legacy center and finished on a stationary bike and lifted. Any and all prayers for my ankle are appreciated.

I put the pedal back on my bike and did 7 miles before it fell off again. So I was able to make it home and I fixed it for good my putting some of the pipe tape stuff on the threads and it stayed on so that was good. I went back out and biked about 1/2-2/3 of the way up suncrest (which lemme tell ya... it's a doozie) and on the way down I got going 42 mph WHICH IS SO MUCH FUN but I wasn't wearing a helmet so I'll do that next time. I think I'm gonna send it all the way up suncrest on Monday.
