I returned from serving a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in early April 2020.

-Currently studying Exercise Science at BYU, hoping to pursue a career in physical therapy or a similar profession studying/working with the human body.

So I showed up at practice, gave Nate an update, and he sent me to the trainer to talk to her. I then proceeded to get poked, prodded, taped, massaged, and tortured for the next 2.5 hours as Jody worked out some knots in my hips, quads, and calves, then realligned my hips because they were all wonky, probably from all the driving in the last couple weeks. It was just a lack of maintenence that escalated into some pretty serious tightness and pain. The plan is to bike through the weekend while doing lots of rolling out and stretching, take some ibuprofen for inflamation, and do a test run on Monday

Hopefully this is my last full day of biking, I'm gonna try to start running on Monday. Today I did a 10min warmup, 6x(3min medium-hard, 2min easy-medium) to pass the time, and 10min cooldown.

I didn't make it quite as far today, it got pretty tight. There's improvement though, it only hurt when I was running, not after! So I'm gonna keep rolling out and stretching and I should be on the track in no time. Hopefully.

I'm starting to wonder if my ankle is getting better at all. I didn't even make it half a mile today, it was hurting pretty bad and it was pretty swollen. I'm doing everything I can for it. So I hopped on the bike and worked pretty hard to keep my hr at about 150 for 45 minutes. Any and all prayers are appreciated, if anybody even still reads my blog lol

I went to the meet (here at ISU) for most of the day to watch, and shoutout to my teammates for killing it. My ankle was feeling no bueno so when I got back I biked for 50 minutes, and while I was biking I listened to a pretty cool podcast about ultrarunning so that was cool. I want to be racing so freaking bad but I gotta take care of my body.

I went to the trainer and I'm gonna be getting ultrasound treatments done every day before practice to help the inflammation. After that I went to the pool but didn't have time to finish my workout before they kicked me out for the kayaking class so I finished on the bike.

I had my Dr's appointment today. He did ultrasound on my ankle, and it turns out that it actually is achilles tendonitis that got pretty bad. My left achilles was twice the thickness of my right achilles, lol it was pretty swollen. So I'm taking two different prescribed anti-inflammatories, and doing PT 3 times a week and I should be back in a month. Fingers crossed. It feels really good to actually have a plan in place to get better

The PT said I could start running, she said to run really slow on a treadmill and the plan was to go until it hurt. That's gonna be our progress marker, how far I can get. it's improving! I probably could've done more than a mile but I didn't want to push it.

Made it 1.3! Then I biked. I pushed fairly hard today on the bike and that actually felt pretty good. There wasn't a workout but I felt like going hard so I did.

During weights I was doing hang cleans and I made it through 2 sets before I realized jumping with 95 pounds on my shoulders hurts my ankle lol so I stopped doing that real quick.

Today the PT said to try running slow until it hurt. When I started I thought I'd only make it .5 miles but I kept going and going and it didn't hurt. I probably could've gone more but I felt it tightening up so I capped it at 3.5. This makes me so happy.

I did my first workout today! We warmed up to the Ross drive-in, and the full workout was 2x3miles, 1min on (5:00/mile), 1min off (7:00/mile). I hit about 5:15 for the "on" and I feel pretty good about it. Nate said to just start one of them and see how it felt. I did 1 and it was hard but I'm in pretty good shape!

 

Ricky and I started doing core and pushups every night and we have a written workout and we make it harder every week. We're up to 165 total pushups tonight and some solid core! Haha it's definitely good to have someone doing it with me because I could not do it alone.

"Long run" today, Nate said I could go 7-8 miles. I hit the mills so I could stop if it started hurting. I made it the 8 miles, and it kinda hurt the whole time but never really got worse. I sat on the bike for 20 minutes after running.

First full workout back today... the workout was 5x1000m @ 5k pace with 3min rest. Nate had Dan, Kyle, and I do 800m of the 1000m, so we actually had close to 4min rest. My splits were 2:23, 2:23, 2:24, 2:33, 2:36. I hung on the pace for the first 3 then kinda died off. Haha I'm pretty happy with it considering it's my first full workout but I'm definitely not satisfied. Honestly I'm a bit nervous to race later this month because I just don't feel like I'm in that great shape but we'll see what happens. No matter what happens I'm gonna go out fighting that' s for sure.

Speed today......... the workout was 8x150m, 400m, 4x150m, all at goal 800 pace with 90sec-2min rest in between everything. Splits were 21.99, 21.41, 20.67, 22.15, 21.08, 23.05, 21.86, 22.28 for the first 8, 65 for the 400 (OUCH THAT WAS HARD), and 23.07, 22.65, 21.9, and 21.25 for the last 4 150s. To put things into perspective, 21 is on pace for a 1:52 800. I put spikes on before the 400 to see how my ankle would handle that, and I kept them on for the rest of the workout because it felt fine. So basically 1.75 miles (ish) at 1:52-1:53 pace (lol except the 400) so I'm pretty dang happy with it because I was able to mostly hang with the guys on everything (obviously not the 400) which is big!

On that 400 I came through the 200m at 29sec and locked up bigtime, hence the 65...

We had weights after which pretty much sucked bigtime because we were dying on the ground after this workout but #NOEXCUSES #GETSWOLE

I had to do my cooldown after weights because weights started at 5 and we didn't finish the workout until 4:45 so I did 3 miles after which was basically never good lol my legs were SO DEAD.

Solid workout today. We did 3x800m,2x200m. The 800's were at 1500 pace and the 200's were all out. It was super windy so Nate told me to start at 2:20 and see how it felt. My splits were 2:17, 2:17, 2:22, 28, 27. Mentally I did awesome so I think I have this mental stuff pretty down. Good stuff.
