Work up to comfortably running 60-70 miles/week

I returned from serving a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in early April 2020.

-Currently studying Exercise Science at BYU, hoping to pursue a career in physical therapy or a similar profession studying/working with the human body.

Wow. First college race. It basically hurt really bad, the course is super hilly so that kinda sucked. There's about 50 feet less elevation gain than footlocker, just to put it in perspective. I fought really hard, and I felt good about it mentally. I didn't give up. Just didn't come together today.

8x1k this morning, with 3min rest, jogging the 200m back to the start. Splits were 3:09, 3:05, 3:04, 3:07, 3:09, 3:13, 3:15, 3:10. For those of you who aren't familiar with what pace that is (hi Mom), they were 4:54, 4:46, 4:49, 4:51, 4:51, 5:02, 5:06, 4:54. I am very happy with how that went, especially with how bad the last couple days have been. I fell off the group a bit after the first 3, so I was usually alone after the first lap on those, but the paces were good. Just gotta run my pace.

I ran on the treadmill with Kaler today because of the smoke. I didn't want it to affect my breathing and it was bad today. The run actually wasn't too bad, so that was good. Just kinda zoned out and ran.

We had the brilliant idea of running up and down every row in the cemetery. 7.5 miles. In a cemetery. Haha it straight sucked but that's alright. Then we had 2x(4x120m strides).

Workout today. 2x3mi @LT with 2min rest. We did out and back, and the out portion was slightly uphill with a slight headwind. Nate said to keep it purely effort based, so we can better learn where that LT line is. I felt like I found that line and stuck on it so that was good. Splits according to Strava were 5:48, 5:58, 5:38 for the first one, and 5:44, 5:34, 5:44 for the second one. I feel like I was very within myself and it wasn't an all out effort. It was hard, yes, but I wasn't dying. I found the line and rode it. Good day.

Wyatt had the brilliant idea to follow this trail that went straight through some gorges and up a mountain, and the trail literally disappeared about halfway through. Some serious bushwacking took place. But that's ok, it was a good time.

Montana State Invite today! It was freaking cold and it snowed during the whole race. We warmed up and I felt pretty tight and nervous, but I just kinda brushed it off. Splits were 5:23, 5:42, 5:41, 5:40, 5:25. Nate said to chill for the first 2 or 3 miles then started picking people off in mile 4, and go for broke in mile 5. I did that, and I'm happy with how it went. I had more in the tank, and I definitely could've pushed harder in the middle miles. Very good first 8k. Happy but not satisfied.

We also took first as a team so that was super sick!!!

Workout today, 5xmile with 3 min rest. Nate told me to go 5:05-5:10ish. Splits were 5:03, 5:13, 5:17, 5:21, 5:12. I feel good about this one because my legs felt like trash on the warmup. Grinded through. The last one was faster and felt better than the two before it so idk what was up with that. Mental stuff I guess. Gotta buckle down and drive sooner.

30 minutes in the normatec boots for recovery, that felt fantastic.

Nate actually told us all to go easy today. I don't think I've ever heard him say that lol. Easy 10 hovering around 7 flat. It was kind of a drag, I was definitely feeling yesterday. We've got another workout and weights tomorrow so we'll see how that goes.

Kind of a workout today? We did 8x(300m easy, 637m @LT). Nate made the loop, so blame him for the funky numbers. Legs were pretty beat, but I stuck with the group for all but the last one so that was good. We did it in grass and there were big puddles so it was cold and wet but a good time!

Yes, 15 miles today... I was supposed to do a 12 mile long run, but I only did 5 miles yesterday so I figured it wasn't too much to make up for. I did Ryan's warmup with him, 2 miles there. Then I cooled down with Ben, 1 mile there. Then at about 5:30 I did the 12 mile long run, I felt pretty tired and I had a very full stomach from Costa vida but I survived. Tired but a good day at bob firman

Shoutout to Ryan for winning the whole dang thing, and for some stellar performances across the board. And shoutout to the skyridge kids (including Ryan of course) because I missed them dearly and it was fantastic to see them

We did 25 minutes of 1min on, 1min off in the cemetery today, the on wasn't anything crazy, 5:20-5:40. Just some LT work. Then 3x75m hill sprints. I felt pretty tired today, but that's to be expected after last week.

Workout today! 3x1000m @3:05, and 3x400m @70. This workout was meant for those traveling to get their legs moving and get some work done. Nate wanted me to work harder than them so I paced about half of them and was in the top group the rest of them. It felt really good to be mixing it up with the top guys, and Nate told me to get used to it so we'll see what that means. Probably lots of hard work. Splits today were 3:04, 3:03, 3:03, 69, 69, 71. Haha Nate said to calm down on the last one. Good stuff.

Well... I attempted a 5 mile tempo today. I was alone because the other guys are at Notre Dame and idk where Kyle was. and Dan is injured. I averaged 6:07. It's probably a result of not enough sleep, and it's also probably a lull in training. So I'll take care of myself better and keep grinding through.

6 with Dallin and Chuck, wow that was a good time, it's good to see them again. Then a great breakfast at kneaders plus the girls, also a good time for sure. Then in between conference sessions we played ultimate Frisbee which kinda kicked my butt but it was so fun!
